Rohini Moradi was born inside the only Hindu temple in Iran, where her father served as the Pujari. Her childhood was chanting, meditation, and pilgrimages through India to temples most seekers never get to enter. Then her family arrived in America as refugees, and she spent years learning to hide the parts of herself that didn’t fit. A devastating loss later undid her completely. She describes becoming a puddle she had to re-form herself from, and that rebuilding is where her real work began.
Rohini is an author, artist, composer, and creator of immersive experiences. She’s the founder of Magic Inclined and The Cocktail Camp, and her debut book, Tapping Into the Akasha, is out now from Red Wheel/Weiser.
In this episode:
- What the Akasha actually is, and why Rohini pushes back on much of what gets said about the Akashic Records
- Growing up in the only Hindu temple in Tehran, and what that upbringing gave her that no training ever could
- Arriving in America as a refugee and the masks she put on to belong
- How grief became the doorway into her deepest work
- Why her book isn’t a system for fixing yourself, but an invitation to set down the identities that were never yours
- Sound as a healing force, from modular synthesis to field recordings to plants that sing
- Simple ways to begin accessing the Akasha in your own life
If you’ve ever sensed there’s more available to you than what you were handed, this conversation is for you.
